Adverse events in meditation practices and meditation‐based therapies: a systematic review

M. Farias, E. Maraldi, K. C. Wallenkampf and G. Lucchetti · 2020

A systematic review found reports of adverse experiences during or after meditation, with prevalence estimates varying greatly by study design and monitoring method.

What it doesn’t show

Studies differed in practice, recruitment, definitions and how they sought adverse experiences. Reports after meditation do not by themselves prove that meditation caused them. The pooled estimate is not a single risk rate for all meditators and cannot be transferred to relational groups.
