Group Facilitation on Societal Disruption and Collapse: Insights from Deep Adaptation

Jem Bendell and Katie Carr · 2021

Introduces “Deep Relating”, a facilitation practice drawing on Authentic Relating and Circling, for conversations about anticipated societal disruption and collapse.

Bendell and Carr describe what they learned facilitating Deep Adaptation gatherings since 2018. Deep Relating, in their words, “is a relational meditation practice … grounded in a deep and detailed awareness of present moment experience”. They say it “is similar to, and has evolved from” Authentic Relating, Circling and Focusing, with links to Insight Dialogue and Bohmian dialogue. Four of its six principles match Circling’s almost word for word.

What it doesn’t show

Practitioner reflection and theory, without an outcome evaluation. The authors helped set up, and work in, the forum whose facilitation they describe.
