Gestalt Therapy Effectiveness: A Systematic Review of Empirical Evidence
Adjacent
A review of eleven studies of Gestalt therapy from 2007–2018, all of them in groups, reports promising results; as a narrative summary it can’t establish a reliable effect.
What it doesn’t show
The search covered ScienceDirect, PubMed, PsycINFO and Google Scholar for 2007–2018, in English and Italian. One author examined all 295 full texts, consulting a colleague now and then rather than having a second reviewer screen them. All 11 included studies were group interventions. Quality was discussed informally during selection, but there is no structured appraisal and no pooled effect. It was published by SCIRP, a publisher that independent sources describe as predatory. It doesn’t establish an overall effect, or any effect in individual therapy.
